Arkansas River "The Numbers" - Day Two
Paddle partner Tim asked me along on a Numbers run today. Still exuberant from my first jaunt down The Numbers, I eagerly joined Tim and his friend Steve who was passing through town. Steve turns out to be the owner and creator of Class5.info, a massive paddle sports search engine and all inclusive kayaking resource site. I was happy to meet Steve and I'm sure I will paddle with him again when he is back in Colorado. Today was just as much fun as my last paddle day, maybe better. I was able to paddle with more confidence because I knew what to expect from the run.
On the left is another downloadable video of the top portion of Rapid #5. I remained upright this time. I entered the first drop slightly more river left, which helped me punch through the hole that caught me a little sideways last time. The first video with me being flipped can be seen on Paddle Day 37. I pulled over during the drive home and shot the 2 stills above while sitting in my car. I was next to a lake north of Leadville, a few miles above the Arkansas River headwaters. |
