Not Such a Great Ending

I regret starting so late this summer. I have had an exciting world travel year, but the kayaking season was almost over by the time I was able to get back to Colorado to play in the water.

Still, it was fun to move up into some serious rapids on the Shoshone section of the Colorado River. Despite my 3 days in a row of head impacts and my neck injury, I was pleased with the small progress I made.

I intended to return to the Silverthorne lake and work on my roll after my neck healed, and I also had the intention of running Shoshone one or two more times. It would have been nice to end the season on a more positive note.

Considering my unpleasant difficulties with low water at Shoshone, please read my Safety Note in the next journal entry. Although there are some risks associated with whitewater kayaking, I don't want my recent journal entries to give a prospective boater an exaggerated view of the dangers.

Read my Safety Note or move right into a new season with Paddle Day 19.
